New wristlets in the Etsy store

A recent sewing spree has left me with so many wristlets I had to create a whole new section for them on Etsy. Check it out for the best selection now before the craft show season starts!

The magic in front of the curtain

photo shoot setupI’ve always been a do-it-myselfer, even when it would be easier with help. A great example of this is my makeshift photography studio in my living room.

After moving the couch to the kitchen, I pull down a roll of white paper I’ve suspended from the ceiling with a couple of bicycle hooks and thick doweling. Tada! A backdrop! A couple of sheets of bristol from the dollar store on a nearby Ikea shelf, and voila! A reflector to bounce the light from the opposing window so I don’t have to worry about lights.

I have a hard time focusing my eyes and don’t like manual focusing my camera, so I use auto focus on a mannequin with a twelve second timer. After setting the shot, I jump into place, carefully moving the mannequin so it doesn’t cast a shadow, and wait for the shutter.

After a few quick edits like cropping, colour adjustments, and resizing for web in Adobe Bridge, they’re uploaded to Etsy and other social media channels in hopes that they’ll be the next viral pin on Pinterest!

I know magicians don’t tell their tricks to keep the magical feeling. But for me – the magic is in sharing the story of the clothes. I hope you feel just as magical gifting and wearing them!

I’ve been cutting out some fall (in love) versions of the Bailey skirt and I couldn’t help but take a photo of the pieces all neatly stacked by my serger. These beauties should be up on the Etsy store soon, and in Favourite in North Van for September.

Haiku Studios

Haiku Vancouver

When I created Mulierose, one of my goals was to sell my designs in stores across Canada. I’m one step closer to that goal this month when Mulierose will be participating in a local pop-up shop, Haiku Studios, for the rest of June, July and August. The shop’s located at 644 Kingsway, Vancouver, BC.and will be open 11 to 7 Thursday to Sunday until the end of August. You can follow the shop on Twitter @haikustudios, and like us on Facebook for updates.

I’ll be working a few shifts a month, so feel free to stop by and have a visit while you check out some of Vancouver’s hotest talent. I’ll be sharing floor space with Apogee Handmade, Bianca Barr, Sedated Clothing, Mindan’s Designs, Buenostyle, Natalie, Clutch Jewels, Lou Evans, Vanessa Vlinder, Anaya Leather, and Daub + Design.

cotton cuff made from upcycled men's dressshirts designed and created by Mulierose

I know I said I was going to reveal a new product at next weekend’s Portobello West show at Creekside Community Centre, but I just can’t wait!

From the time I deconstructed the first dressshirt, I’ve been pondering on how exactly to make use of the cuffs. When craft show traffic is a bit slower, you can find me hand sewing flowers out of my scraps. I didn’t start with an end project in mind, I just started making them. Now I’ve found a purpose for them – casual, but still pretty, corsage type cuffs.

Like the clothing line, they’re also all one-of-a-kind. They’re designed to be comfortable and have two buttons to adjust the size. They’re constructed with decorative ribbon, fancy stitching, fabric flowers, and assorted buttons. Buy them online in our Etsy store before they hit the craft show circuit this Saturday.
